Is this true? Is all that chatter I’m hearing true? As we all know, Kendrick Lamar owns 2024! I don’t care which side you’re on – it’s the truth. Some may try to reverse and challenge this, but we won’t!
Now, there’s a new rumor making the rounds on hip-hop’s digital streets. News is that a deluxe edition of Kendrick Lamar’s latest album is coming soon. This part feels very possible – read it here . It’s unclear what this deluxe edition will include. As you can probably guess, I gave it my all. But I’m hoping for something bigger — because let’s face it, 2024 is already going to be a bigger year for Kendrick.
Let me cut to the chase and share what I’m hearing: JAY-Z may be rapping on the upcoming GNX Deluxe Edition! Yes, there have been rumors that Hov is considering a return to hip-hop. Supposedly, he was looking for a way to re-enter a landscape that had changed dramatically since his last real foray. Personally, I’m skeptical of this rumor.
Will JAY-Z really try to make a comeback? Will he return to the ring as the GOAT of this era? Does he still care? He is a billionaire (twice) and owns many other businesses. Still, I believe deep down he has a deep love for hip-hop. I think he might want to assert his dominance in the culture again. But what will he sing now? How will he position himself as number one in today’s digital-first environment? Who will he collaborate with? Who will make it for him? These are legitimate questions and real challenges for him.
Let’s not forget that today’s hottest artists don’t really rap in the traditional sense. This is where Kendrick Lamar becomes so important. Kendrick still raps, and while he can simplify his approach (as we’ve seen on his latest project), he’s still one of the best. Kendrick and JAY-Z’s collaboration could be incredible.
Then there’s J. Cole. (Yes, I’m still upset with him!) Recently, we saw him leak his old records with Kendrick. Some say Cole was cleared on these records, but I disagree. If JAY-Z really wants to come back, he has other options. Drake seems to be off the table, but maybe that’s not the case—Drake is still a top artist. Everything is up in the air now.
If I had to guess, I’d say this particular rumor is probably not true. But I wouldn’t rule it out as a future possibility. With the Super Bowl coming up and JAY-Z’s name being associated with some of the reasons why certain artists have been left out of the show, I thought he might want to keep his integrity. Now singing a song with Kendrick could be seen as a compromise, at least publicly.
What do you think? Will we actually see Kendrick and Jay Jay on the same track in 2024/2025?
