Coi Leray has always been committed to her versatility. Whether exploring R&B, rap, or pop, Massachusetts is the definition of a true multi-talent. Coi Leray demonstrates this again on her latest EP Lemon Cars. The 27-year-old announced the Mike WiLL Made-It joint project on social media a few weeks ago, mentioning that she would be ushering in a new era in 2024. “Love myself, 2024 will be a time of growth and sexiness for me,” HipHopDX said. “I’m taking over this year. I have a lot of new music and a whole new side of me to get to know.”
She’s certainly working on that in this six-song effort. Throughout the project, Coi is exploring different aspects of love, breakups and promiscuity. For example, on “Lemon Car,” the opener and one of three singles, she talks about the latter and living for the nightlife. In “We Time,” Coi is deeply in love and perhaps at her most vulnerable. “I need our time, take some time/your and my time, show me what you’re mine/I need our time, take some time/your and my time, show you what it’s like.

In addition to switching themes, Coi also plays distinctly different instruments to match the vibe she’s delivering. For example, on “Coke Bottle Baby,” a collaboration with Skilla Baby, the song is all about showing off her body, with the two rapping over a strip club-ready trap beat. Coi fans should love this offering as it definitely gives her a more mature angle on the topic. All the while, she brings in some interesting production choices with the help of frequent collaborator Mike WiLL.
