Chance The Rapper has been working on his second studio album Star Line for a while, but he recently gave a pretty promising update on its status.

In a new conversation with Complex published on Wednesday (June 26), the Chicago native revealed that the follow-up to 2019’s The Big Day is about 83 percent complete and that he’s in a much better place than when he debuted.

After initially estimating that the project was 85 percent complete, Chance changed his tune slightly: “That’s a little generous. I would say 83, 83.5, 82.7, you know what I’m talking about? We live in this project now.”

“The problem is, no one can focus enough to pay attention to the conversation. So I piece it together and I live it with my fans and the new artists I’m exposed to.

He added, “I’m really enjoying the process. Because sometimes it’s really tight and hectic to deal with time. For my last project, I had just gotten married, I had just had a baby, and I was about to separate from management. Like, A lot happened to me, now, it’s not like nothing happened – it was a lot – but I was really able to revel in the creative process and put everything into it and be 100% myself and live in present.

Chance The Rapper explained the historical significance of the Star Line title in a 2022 interview with Sway.

“I was inspired by Marcus Garvey in the early 1900s (1919 to 1922), so that’s 100 years ago,” he said. “He started and ran this very important, complete shipping line. He had a fleet of these giant ocean liners the size of cruise ships that he owned and financed with ordinary black people’s money.

“But what he did with it was he created a trade route between the United States, all the Black Islands and the African continent, and created a network of people from all over the world who connected with each other and collaborated with each other to travel together, creating this Connections that didn’t exist before.

He added: “When I think about Black Star Lines and all the spaces it exists in, Black Star [on the line’s flag] yes [also] Ghana is represented in their flag and in the way their country was founded. They believe in global blackness, black connectedness, and a free Africa.

Chance previously revealed that he was targeting a spring 2024 release for the album, which he also called ” [his] Most proud project in terms of writing and artistic vision.

In an effort to retain fans, he dropped the DJ Premier-produced “Together” in May. Prior to this, he dropped “Buried Alive” in April, which addressed his recent divorce and legal dispute with his former manager.

“Where is his money now? Where is his wife? Where is his hype?
