Cardi B’s team has released a statement regarding her recent story about a wild encounter with the LAPD, confirming that it’s not, in fact, true.
In a statement provided to Billboard on Wednesday (March 27), a rep for the Bronx rapper wrote: “This IG Live was taken out of context and the story has no basis in fact. We deeply regret any confusion. Apologize.”
The statement comes shortly after TMZ did some digging after the LAPD noted there was no evidence this ever happened.
Earlier this week, the New York rapper claimed on Instagram Live that law enforcement accused her of selling drugs without knowing who she was.
“They own all the helicopters in Los Angeles,” she said. “Yo, I was freaking out. They had me out there for like three hours. They had me out butt naked. It was fucking crazy. It was a dead movie or something, but you already knew that .
“I’m suing the LAPD. I told them, ‘Yo, I’m Cardi B. Do I look like I’m trying to sell something? Why would I do that? I would never do anything like that.”
She continued: “They didn’t believe me. It was some white police officers and they didn’t know who I was. They were really hard on me and everything. They said someone gave them a tip. I really felt like this was my opponent and One of those shit, like they’re really trying to ruin my life type of shit. Y’all don’t even fucking know. I’ve been through a lot lately.”
She then completely changed her tone, going deeper than usual, laughing and saying, “I’m not serious,” before thanking fans for their support of her new single. This led some fans to think she had been joking, which it turns out she was.
In other news, she thanked her fans for their support for the single, which was released earlier this month. “Enough (Miami)” features menacing synths and trap-style drums over a minimal beat, giving the 31-year-old singer plenty of room to showcase her ferocious bars.
“One bitch, two bitches, old bitch, new bitch/None of you bitches know how to do/I’m in Miami, I’m on a cruise ship stop/You’re in Miami, four hoes come to a room to shit,” she says here Rap on the blockbuster single.
The song debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week.
