Cardi B revealed that she preserved her newborn son’s umbilical cord and dipped it in gold chrome, a decision that captured attention and sparked discussion by blending maternal sentiment with a bold aesthetic.
The 33-year-old Bronx-born rapper welcomed her fourth child and first child with Stefon Diggs on November 4.
The New England Patriots wide receiver has stepped into a fatherly role, and with the arrival of a baby boy, the couple has begun a new chapter.
To commemorate the birth, Cady commissioned Mommy Made Encapsulation, a company that specializes in converting biological materials into souvenirs.
The company transformed her son’s umbilical cord into what they describe as “your baby’s umbilical cord, which is dehydrated into a heart shape and then dipped in gold chrome.”

The souvenir, which costs $50, is an add-on to the company’s $500 placenta encapsulation service, which processes the placenta into pill form for postpartum use.
The company also created a $65 placenta print for Cardi, dyed blue and shaped like the tree of life. Mommy Made Encapsulation shared the entire process on Instagram, including footage of wire shaping the umbilical cord before being dehydrated and chromed.
The company has processed more than 40,000 placentas and has worked with Cardi before.
In 2024, they documented a similar surgery for her third child, Blossom Belle Cephus. They also offer their services to Megan Fox and Vanessa Hudgens, helping normalize the practice of celebrity parenthood.
The timing of the news also fueled speculation about Cardi’s relationship with Diggs, as Cardi was seen wearing a diamond ring on her left hand in photos with the newborn.
She has yet to comment publicly on any engagement.
