Cardi B responded to claims she destroyed equipment backstage at “Saturday Night Live” over a Nicki Minaj joke during her Jan. 31 appearance.
The Bronx rapper spoke out on social media hours after TMZ published allegations about her behavior during rehearsals for the NBC sketch comedy.
“Well, all these random little stories… [f**k] Let them talk, let them eat cake, let them come to prom,” Cardi wrote on X
Her cryptic response came after sources told TMZ she allegedly threw her phone at backstage monitors and tapped the screen in the producers’ office.
The drama reportedly started when Cardi overheard writers discussing a joke during a Weekend Update segment about Nicki Minaj’s recent MAGA movement in support of Donald Trump.
The 33-year-old artist threatened not to perform and caused enough disruption that the joke was eventually removed from the show, the outlet reported.
One fan account highlighted how Alex Bruesewitz, a senior Trump adviser who has been publicly supportive of Nikki, quickly retweeted the story.
Brusewitz added her own comments, saying Cardi “lashed out at Cardi,” referring to her alleged behavior.
“Random stories popping up now…please -_-,” Cardi replied to her followers, seemingly suggesting the timing was suspicious given the recent political tensions between her and her Trump colleagues.
Despite the incident, Cardi B performed two songs from her album Am I The Drama? Includes “Bodega Baddie” and “ErrTime”.
Her second show features Dominican artist El Prodigio, bringing what she calls her “authentic Dominican voice” to the prestigious stage.
“I’m so happy…I’m honored to be performing with THEE @elprodigiord on one of America’s most prestigious stages…SNL,” Cardi posted on Instagram after the show.
She emphasized how the collaboration blends “the sounds and culture of the Bronx” with Dominican musical traditions.
The performance went smoothly without any glaring hiccups, with Cardi delivering energetic renditions of both tracks.
Cardi and Nicki’s contentious relationship dates back years, including their 2018 physical altercation and recent social media exchanges.
Representatives for “Saturday Night Live” and Cardi B did not respond to requests for comment about the backstage incident.
Cardi is currently touring in support of Am I The Drama?, which is set to be released on September 19, 2025.
