Cardi B will receive the ASCAP Sound Award for Culture Awards at a private ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday (June 8) for her impact on music and social change.
The award is presented by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers to recognize artists who shape culture through creativity and activism. Past recipients included Usher, who placed Cardi in an elite company.
The Bronx-born rapper has collected 23 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards and has won several ASCAP Pop Awards such as “Bodak Yellow,” “I Like,” “Finesse” and “Finesse” and “Finesse” and “Girls Like You.”
The honor reflects Cardi’s role in “redefining hip-hop culture and social expectations for women,” ASCAP said. ”
“Cardi B has left an indelible mark on hip-hop culture by redefining and challenging women’s norms,” said ASCAP Board Chairman and President Paul Williams. “After breaking into countless obstacles in unapologetic authenticity and talent, she continues to advocate and inspire others with her voice, a true testament to her undeniable impact. We are proud to show Cardi B this year’s Ascap of the Culture Award.”
Cardi focuses on the future as the award celebrates her past. Her long extended sophomore album is about to be completed and is expected to arrive sometime in 2025.
In an interview with Billboard, she described the project as “messy,” emotionally primitive, and full of “the girl’s thing about many lovers.” She said the album fell into heartbreak, healing and rediscovering.
Her 2018 privacy debut may have at least 20 tracks, and her first record has almost double the number. She reportedly has over 100 unreleased songs to choose from.
Cardi’s personal life is just quiet. In 2024, she welcomed her third child and filed for divorce while leaving her focus on laser finishing the album.
Recent singles “Like What (Freestyle)” and “Enough (Miami)” have made her name buzz because of the album’s expectations.
