Cardi B’s “Enough (Miami),” released earlier this year, was a huge success, but she’s now being sued for allegedly plagiarizing a blockbuster movie released nearly three years ago.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ on Wednesday (July 3), musicians Joshua Fraustro and Miguel Aguilar, a.k.a. Kemika 1956, claim the New York native copied their song “Greasy Frybread” without their authorization “Part of the content.
The joint product launch is to promote the 2021 first season of the Sterling Harjo and Taika Waititi comedy Keep the Dogs.
The lawsuit also names 31-year-old MC producer OG Parker and DJ SwanQo as well as her labels Atlantic Records and Warner Music Group as defendants in the case.
As for her next album, Cardi B hasn’t revealed many details yet, although she seems to be actively working on it.
Earlier this week, the South Bronx rapper shared a brief snippet of one of her yet-to-be-released songs on her Instagram Stories. The record clearly shows the superstar singing in a different way than the songs she’s most famous for.
“I hope you’re on the road/Crazy about you/Waiting for you, can’t wait to sit on that face/Focus on you,” she croons to Janet Jackson’s “Funny How the Time Goes (When Your Time”) re Have Fun)” and some hip-hop drums.
She wrote on the video: “Do you like the atmosphere of CB2?”
A few months ago, she spoke to Rolling Stone about the long-awaited follow-up to her 2018 privacy breach.
The superstar claimed it was partially complete as of March, saying it still needed a synopsis, at least three songs, titles, features and a rollout plan.
As for what to expect from the upcoming album, she said: “[I’m] Every day is a different person. When I’m in a good mood, when I’m with my friends, [I’m] Like, ‘Damn, I want my shit to play in this club. But then I would have been mad at my man, so now I want to make this song. But then I wanted to make a pop record. I want to make my songs.
The “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker previously assured fans that the new album would be released in 2024, which is also the sixth anniversary of her record-breaking debut album.
