Busta Rhymes has landed a role in the upcoming Naked Gun reboot, featuring all-star cast including Liza Koshy, WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes (Cody Rhodes) and veteran actress CCH Pounder.
Deadline has confirmed that the former leader of The New School has signed on to star in the film on Thursday (May 23) in an as-yet-undisclosed role.
Other stars confirmed for the reboot include Liam Neeson (who will play Agent Frank Drebin), Pamela Anderson, Paul Michael Houser and Kevin Durand.
Busabas’ role in the reboot of “The Naked Gun” will mark his first starring role in a film in nearly a decade. His last film role was in 2016’s Dancehall, opposite Nick Cannon. He is also known for his voice work in the Minions movies and The Boondocks (as the voice of Flonominal).
Busta Rhymes has always been passionate about different forms of creative expression. Back in 2011, he co-signed with Nicki Minaj to enter the film industry.
Nicki Minaj has accomplished so much in such a short period of time that the legendary rapper decided that acting was the next logical step for the woman who would become a superstar.
“I don’t think she missed anything in what she did,” he said in an interview at the time. “She’s a new artist. She’s done more than new artists do, she’s been all over the place and had the success and recognition that she’s had.
“I’m just saying, from what I’ve seen, the only thing she’s going to do, not only is she going to do it, but the next thing I’d like to see her do is a movie.”
Recently, Busta Rhymes admitted that he originally wanted to be a DJ and “accidentally” became a rapper.
“I’ve never been really good at DJing,” he said on the CEO Diary podcast. “I could do it, but I was never good enough to be a superstar DJ. At that time, DJing was very important. Because all the bands had DJs in their names. DJs were always the big guys.
He added: “I’m not really a tech guy, so all this equipment shit, it’s a little complicated for me,” he concluded.
