Busta Rhymes lit up Lagos with his music when he told a cheering crowd at the Detty December Fest on Friday night that he not only wanted to buy a property in Nigeria but also find a wife.

The hip-hop veteran made the surprise announcement during a performance in Ikoyi Iluubirin, his first return to Nigeria in 15 years.

The Brooklyn-born rapper paused mid-show to share his plans with the audience, who responded with cheers and disbelief.

“Even though it took 15 years, we’re back home. This trip is special to me because it’s more than just a show. I’m looking for a home here, I’m looking for property,” he said. “I’m thinking about getting a wife so when I stop, I can settle down here. There will be a couple of Nigerian, Jamaican grandchildren there.”

One woman can be heard screaming excitedly: “I’m your property, I’m your property!”

The moment quickly became the most talked about highlight of the night, with social media abuzz over his statement. The rapper, who fathered six children with four women but never married, is making a real statement about his future.

As for his performance, Busta Rhymes did not disappoint on stage.

He sang hits like “Touch It” and “Put Your Hands That My Eyes Could See,” while also incorporating African rhythms to pay homage to local sounds.

The evening also featured surprise guest appearances from Nigerian stars Tiwa Savage, MI Abaga and Ill Bliss, creating a cultural fusion that reflected Busta’s growing ties to Nigeria.

His connection to the country was more than admiration. He has collaborated with Nigerian artists including Burna Boy, and his interest in local real estate and family life suggests he is thinking long-term.

Busta, who has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2025, remains one of hip-hop’s most legendary artists.
