Covington, Georgia emcee Boondox releases his seventh EP. As 1/3 of the trio Southern Hustlas Inc., who went by the moniker Turncoat Dirty, he subsequently signed with Psychopathic Records following the release of his debut EP Dama Blanca in 2005, and spent about a year under the banner of Insane Clown Posse. Over the years, he released his first four albums and his second EP, PunkinHed, through Detroit Street Records. If you watch JCW Lunacy, “Sippin’ on Down” from his debut album “The Harvest” is also the entrance theme song for former 5-time JCW World Juggalo Heavyweight Champion 2 Tuff Tony. Former label mate Twiztid then brought Killer Scarecrow to Majik Ninja Entertainment in the winter of 2016, and is still signed to the company today. So Blood marked his return to evil shit a few years ago, and now comes Black Winter.
Following the title intro, the first song produced by MIKE SUMMERS aka Seven, “Punisher” is a dark trap intro that likens himself to the titular Marvel antihero, while “2 Wrongs Make It Right” embraces rap rock vibe, warning you not to actually do it. “Intermission” keeps Guitar intact, feeling like he won’t be forgiven for his life of sin, while “War Log” is chaotically preparing for carnage.
“Vigilante” is back at the trap metal tip again, talking about the killing season coming and how it will never be the same and the cause of retributive justice without public safety or commission, but then “Vae Victis” advises everyone to Pull down the curtain and see with your own eyes that everything is not actually as it seems, and make sure they know who he is in the process of giving everyone else a third degree.
Boondox’s previous two EPs via Mobstyle Music and MNE under his original Turncoat Dirty stage name have shown the character’s artistic growth over the past 20 years, and Black Winter confirms this once again. Seven’s production is mainly trap-based, with some trap metal undertones sprinkled in, while Boondox’s lyrical style tends to be more hardcore, rather than the gangster concept of Cryptodirt 3 years ago.
