Amidst the shocking news, BET seems to have paused the Hip Hop Awards and the Soul Train Awards indefinitely. But for BET CEO Scott Mills, that’s not because it reveals why, and it may have to do something by reinventing the format to a more modern standard. In a recent interview with Billboard, Mills talked about the nature of rumors and propaganda and its existence.
He said: “…It’s no longer that they are no longer that our team has to reimagine them for this ever-changing media landscape. We think we’ll see more people going to see more people joining the franchise and say: ‘This may have started on online telecom, but now I’m going to move it to another platform.
So for BET linearity, we paused the Soul Train and Hip-Hop awards. But as the media climate continues to grow, we have a team that actively thinks about performing best life for these awards. They didn’t leave. And we also have the NAACP Image Award and Excellent Awards. ”
For many, it’s still a heartbreaking thing, as the awards are truly in the experience of television and the community coming together. How will this move have an impact on how culture and how it is shared in the hip-hop community as the digital landscape is farther and more dispersed than ever before? Stay tuned for finding the answer!
