Bailey has announced that he will donate proceeds from his new album 96 Miles from Bethlehem to support Palestine.
The XO rapper announced the news on Instagram, writing: “I have so much more to say… 96 miles from Bethlehem. Tomorrow… (Profits from the album and merchandise will be donated to Gaza, the West Bank and and other affected areas around Palestine).
Bailey, who was born in Palestine and moved to Canada when he was seven, has been an outspoken advocate for the country during its ongoing war with Israel.
He previously wrote on Instagram: “Fuck politics…fuck your pretend sophistication…fuck the media. If you’ve reached a stage in life where you think it’s okay to kill innocent people, it’s okay to cut off the entire basic human needs of the population (50% of which are children), then you are a sociopath.
“This is not a political issue… this is a human issue. I am heartbroken for my people and ashamed of almost everyone.
He added: “If you are killing civilians and destroying entire cities, what advantage do you have over the terrorists you say you are hunting?”
Belly also calls his upcoming project, which will be released on Friday (May 31), “the most special album of my life.”
Earlier this week, Kehlani accused other artists of not using their platforms to speak out about the war in Palestine, which has killed more than 36,000 people and displaced about 2 million since it began in October.
In a series of Instagram videos, the singer criticized her “peers who are high fucking platformers, high paid people who have beaten their fucking game” for staying silent about the conflict, saying: “You Can’t speak? How disgusting.
She also said in a passionate public service announcement: “Fuck Israel. This is f**king Zionism. You are too f**ked.”
Kehlani also wrote in the caption: “What do you have to eat??? If it wasn’t for the crowds, our show wouldn’t be sold out. Without PEOPLE, these songs wouldn’t be on the charts. Without PEOPLE, TREND It won’t catch on. Don’t you draw the line at beheading babies after 7 months or other atrocities being burned alive?
Her post received support from Macklemore, who has also been an outspoken critic of Israel’s conduct during the war.
He commented: “Every word gives me goosebumps. You are always there to inspire me.
