SZA noticed a decisive shift in Lizzo’s energy in a recent visit, which praised her long-time friend’s newly discovered independence and emotional growth following Bali’s personal breakthrough.
Lizzo explains how Kill Bill appears solo, which is a change from the past.
“I remember pulling myself up to meet her, [SZA] It’s like, ‘How are you? Lizzo tells women about health. I was always alone and you would never be alone. I was like, ‘I’m fine. I don’t need anyone. I’ll see you here. She was like, “I love this healing version.”
Lizzo said her transformation began after meeting Tibetan monks in Bali in August 2024. The encounter helped her change her mindset and stop relying on external verification.
“He’s like, ‘You’re too worried about others. You need to trust yourself. You need to tell yourself that you’re incredible, prioritize your ideas, and don’t let others tell you that they’re more suitable for you than you.” After talking to him, I didn’t have that clarity;” she said.
The two artists have maintained a close friendship since they toured together in 2013. Their bond deepened after a spontaneous trip to Lake Michigan and they spent a lot of time relaxing.
“We then got drunk and hang out, we kept doing it, and then our lives and careers have improved, we kept chatting and hanging out,” Sza told Interview magazine last month.
Their creative chemistry also extends to music.
Lizzo and Sza have previously collaborated on the mix of Lizzo 2022 track “Special”, and SZA recently hinted that another joint project is coming.
