Azealia Banks claims Beyoncé and Roc Nation paid to help “Texas Hold ‘Em” reach No. 1 on the Billboard country music chart. Banks lashed out at Beyoncé and Billboard after the magazine published a story about Banks’ feuding history.
Responding to the Billboard article on Instagram, Banks wrote: “In these feeble attempts to control the narrative, it’s becoming increasingly clear that you have your staff paid to spit out any b####### .” “But, really, I’m concerned about Beyoncé and Rock Country’s behind-the-scenes treatment/undermining of black female artists/writers, and her bold expectations for black women to join her in some way because she’s ‘the first ‘Proud of a black woman making it to the top. The national rankings (ugh I almost puked) are enough to make their team pay for this weak attempt at damage control, it’s pretty itchy.”
She continued, “I think it’s sad that in 2024, a global superstar and her husband are desperately trying to get an ‘album of the year’ – apparently injecting some into a bizarre attempt to ‘upend’ the power structure. Motivation. The music industry, with its own DSP, Tidal, needs to rely on these obnoxiously childish nicknames like “The first black woman (to spend a salary in country radio haha)” as if she deserves something special just for being black stuff. This post-BLM propaganda doesn’t hide how these two songs pale in comparison to nearly every artist making contemporary white American country music.”
Banks reiterated her frustration with Beyoncé’s country music, saying “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages” were not good songs. Banks believes her views are vindicated by the alleged efforts to smear her.
“I wanted to celebrate her continued advancement in craft, femininity and skill,” Banks wrote. “If the songs were good, you’d be writing about them, not what Azealia thinks about them. But the songs are bad, she seems to have no awareness, as if she’s wearing a chemical tights, and the PR statement is unnecessarily political /Excessive…”
Earlier this week, Banks brutally censored albums by Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Cowboy Carter. Banks also posted a photo of herself in a denim outfit to support her prank.
