Despite years of well-documented conflicts, Ashanti said she has always wanted to provide him with the best conflict.
“I know in my heart that I always want peace between us only,” she said. “Let’s keep it kind. I want him to be peaceful. I pray that he will be peaceful.”
Ashanti also reviews the history they have created together and the lasting impact of their works. In doing so, she stressed the importance of her son Nelly and understood the severity of the success she achieved with Gotti.
“We made history together, and it’s infinite,” she said. “My son will know we made these records together.”
She also shared her disappointment that despite her great efforts, they have not reconciled in recent years.
“I do know I expanded the olive branch and I do know I just wanted to make things cool,” she said.
When revealing that she also connects with Gotti’s loved ones and other close associates like Ja Rule, she also talks about public censorship and drama surrounding their relationship since his death. Even though things were tough between them for a few years, Asanti insisted that she always tried to handle things with grace.
“I’ll always feel grateful,” she said. “I’ll always be grateful and be honest with all of this.”
During their time together at the murder company, Ashanti and Irv Gotti were responsible for some of the early 2000s hits. Champion singles like “Silly” and “Glamorous” solidified their own R&B power. Their collaboration led to the success of Multiplatinum and several Grammy nominations.
