Ashanti and Nelly’s newborn came into the world a month ago, although fans are only now finding out.
On Wednesday (August 21), People reported that the superstar couple welcomed a baby boy named Kareem Kenkaide Hayes on July 18.
“Proud and happy parents who love KK very much!” a representative told the media.
On the same day, Ashanti also shared some photos on Instagram showing that she had given birth.
“Funny how life’s plans don’t always go on time… haha,” she wrote, naming the song after her 2001 hit with Ja Rule.
“I’ve been waiting to become a mother for so long, but nothing could have prepared me for what motherhood brings!

Not only did Ashanti and Nelly manage to keep their child a secret until they were ready to share the news, they also did the same in their marriage.
In June, TMZ obtained the soon-to-be couple’s wedding records, which revealed they tied the knot just before New Year’s Day (December 27, 2023).
While the document doesn’t specify which city the couple said “I do,” it was made official in St. Louis County, so it’s likely they tied the knot in the rapper’s hometown.
Ashanti just confirmed their engagement in April, and recalled the moment her partner popped the question during a chat with Entertainment Tonight.
“It was such a beautiful, intimate moment,” she said. “We weren’t fully dressed.”
Considering the two were lying on the bed watching TV in T-shirts and boxers, she was legitimately “shocked” by his choice of setting.
The R&B icon added: “I cried. I gave him the biggest hug and kiss ever. I FaceTimed everyone I knew…I was so happy, shocked, surprised and happy, just Like everything else.
The couple got back together last year.
“You know, the growth on both sides of the ball has been phenomenal,” Ashanti said of their chemistry today compared to when they dated in the early 2000s. “We’re both the same people we were, arguing sometimes and then walking out on it. , close the door and don’t speak for a few days.”
