Wendy Williams is again at the center of controversy after lawyers accused her court-appointed guardian leaking a confidential medical report to the media, claiming the former talk show host had less legal freedom than convicted criminals.
Attorney Joe Tacopina appeared on Banfield of the News Agency and called on Sabrina Morrissey, the guardian of Williams, to allegedly leak a document supporting the diagnosis of frontal dementia and aphasia.
He said the report was never officially shared with Williams’ legal team and questioned its authenticity.
“She has fewer rights than convicted felons, and for me, it’s the scariest part of the whole thing, and that’s really.”
Williams, 61, has been under custody of Morrissey since May 2022 after a New York court ruled that she was medically unsuitable for managing her personal and financial affairs.
The recent leak, reportedly published in People magazine, appears to reinforce the court’s original ruling. But Tacopina insists that the report is misleading and may be fabricated.
“When no one sees the report is inaccurate, where is the report? She has not completed a medical diagnosis,” he said.
Attorneys are also concerned that if the document is real, it may violate federal privacy laws, suggesting that the leak may violate HIPAA regulations.
He argued that the report was used to manipulate public perception and prove ongoing custody.
“It’s not about medicine. It’s about manipulation. It’s the weapon used by those who make profits. I’ll be straightforward and profit from having Wendy suffer this abuse of custody,” Tacopina said. “I know exactly what’s going on. She hasn’t completed her medical diagnosis.”
He directly accused Morrissey of being the source of the leak, saying, “Let’s call ######, I’m not afraid to take responsibility for my words. Of course, this is Sabrina Morrissey. Of course, the Guardian. Of course, the Guardian. Who else will leak? Who will leak her place, you know her place, you know?
Despite allegations about her mental health, I recently saw Williams in New York City, appearing alert and getting engaged.
