Akon found himself behind bars last Thursday morning (November 6) after Georgia law enforcement executed an outstanding arrest warrant against the multi-platinum artist.

The Chamblee Police Department took the 52-year-old performer into custody and processed him through the DeKalb County jail system, where he was released about six hours later. The “Alone” hitmaker, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, wore a black hoodie as she posed for a booking photo shoot, keeping a stoic expression throughout.

Authorities confirmed the detention was on an out-of-county warrant, but specific details about the underlying charges have not been released. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the morning’s arrest and subsequent booking process to the media.

For the Senegalese-American artist, the brief incarceration marked another chapter in a tumultuous year. His estranged wife, Tomeka Thiam, filed divorce papers in September, just four days before their 29th wedding anniversary.

Despite the legal dispute, the Grammy-nominated performer’s detention proved to be temporary. Jail records show his processing and release occurred on the same day, suggesting either the bond was paid or the underlying issue with the warrant was resolved.

Representatives for Akon have not responded to requests for comment on the arrest warrant or the circumstances of his brief detention. The nature of the out-of-county legal issues that led to the arrest remains under investigation.

The development comes as the “Smack That” collaborator continues to manage various business ventures, including his ambitious Aken City project in Senegal, which he recently defended over reports of its cancellation.

Akon’s legal team has not made any public statements about the Georgia incident or potential future court appearances related to the outstanding search warrants.

Akon claimed he had served years in prison and was the leader of a car theft ring, but the investigation revealed those claims were largely embellished to enhance his street credibility. In fact, Akon spent several months in jail around 1998 for possessing a stolen car, but the charges were later dropped and he was never convicted as a ringleader or sentenced to a long term in prison.

However, he was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm and received three years of probation.

In addition to his boasted criminal background, Akon has faced controversy for several other legal incidents. In 2007, he was charged with endangering a minor and harassment after throwing a teenager off the stage during a concert, causing minor injuries to an audience member.

That same year, he lost corporate sponsorship after facing public backlash for simulating sex with an underage girl on stage in Trinidad and Tobago.
