Suge Knight said legendary rapper Tupac Shakur has turned his sights on R&B star Aaliyah and worked on a project with her before he died prematurely.
Knight recalls the excitement after Shakur saw Aaliyah performing live during an interview with Dialogue Art.
Tupac wants to sign Aria. I took him to the Gladys Knight show and he loved it. Then Aaliyah came out and Pac said, “Don’t get up, don’t get up.” I said, “Why?” He said, “You’re going to talk to Gladys, and you’re going to sing with the little girl, what you know next, You’ll do it,” Knight said.
Knight explained that Tupac Shakur has cemented his legacy as one of hip-hop’s greatest artists, who was attracted by Aaliyah’s stage performance and voice.
With this performance alone, the rapper is convinced that she is destined to be a superstar and he wants to be part of the journey.
“He was excited. I’ve never seen that n #### so happy. Of all the girls and women he’s ever met, he thinks she’s the biggest star and has the best voice ever.” Knight explain.
The rapper’s enthusiasm did not disappear that night. According to Knight, he continued to talk about Aaliyah for a few days, sharing his vision of working with her and making music together.
“I’ve never seen him so excited about not having a female artist. He lost his mind with Aaliyah. He was super, super, super excited,” Knight added.
However, any cooperation plan will never be achieved. Tupac Shakur was shot several times during a driving shooting in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996.
He died six days later on September 13 at the age of 25. His vision of making music with Aaliyah never had a chance to be realized.
Meanwhile, Aaliyah continues to rise to Superstardom, cementing her position as one of R&B’s most popular voices.
But a tragedy happened five years later. On August 25, 2001, the singer died in a plane crash in the Bahamas at the age of 22.
