Ab-Soul has always released high quality albums. Underrated, maybe even slept on the album, but still high quality. However, the TDE veteran is doing something different with the upcoming release. The quality is still there, but Ab-Soul is experimenting with different sounds and working with different artists to show that he can make music as compelling as his peers. “Squeeze 1st 2” is for the old fans, while “All That” is for the West Coast fans. “Crazier” is DOE BURGER’s third single, and Ab-Soul goes head-to-head with another lyrical master, JID. It delivers.
The beats are sparse and relentless. There’s nothing flashy about “crazy.” Without even any preparation, JID just kicks things off with an extended guest verse. The wordplay and flow are sharp. JID may be the standout on Dreamville, but TDE’s influence on his style is undeniable. He adapted naturally to this soundscape. Next it was Su Luo’s turn. Ab-Soul was actually the most expressive of the two hosts, using his signature mix of puns, esoteric references, and trash talk. “Crazier” is Ab-Soul’s softest single for DOE BURGER to date. That said, there’s something quietly strong about it that will keep fans coming back.
