Megan Thee Stallion just gave some real talk about how she achieves her incredible fitness body.
The Houston rapper’s fitness transformation didn’t happen overnight, and it’s definitely not just about looking good.
“My journey started because I wanted to release my emotions,” Meghan tells PEOPLE exclusively. “When I started going to the gym, it was definitely a mental thing for me.”
The three-time Grammy winner’s fitness journey began during her darkest moments, after she was shot by Tory Lanez and the subsequent drama with Milagro Gramz.
After experiencing trauma and depression, she found herself lying in bed with the blackout curtains drawn, avoiding the sun entirely.
“I don’t want to hide under the covers,” she told Women’s Health in 2024. “I stay in my room. I can’t turn on the lights. I have blackout curtains. I don’t want to see the sun.”

But therapy and fitness became her lifeline. Now the results speak for themselves. Megan goes to the gym four to five days a week with her trainer, doing everything from hip thrusts and goblet squats to weighted sit-ups and lat pull-downs.
Physical transformation also accompanies spiritual healing. Megan began cutting back on bread, red meat and sugary drinks while drinking about a gallon of water a day.
“I didn’t know a lot about nutrition. But once I started figuring out, ‘Okay, girl, if you really want to see some results, you need to eat and drink some protein,’ it all fell into place,” Megan Thee Stallion tells People.
What advice does she have for people starting out on their own fitness journey? Do things for yourself, not for the approval of others.
“I don’t think you should do it for other people,” she said. “If your reason is because you’ve had a bad day and you need to release energy, that’s valid. I want you to do it for yourself and not for other people to give you recognition.”
Motivation must come from within. “Once you really have a reason to want to be there, that’s when it’s time to change,” she said. “That’s when you start seeing results because you’re passionate about it.”
Megan Thee Stallion recently partnered with Dunkin’ to launch her protein drink Megan’s Mango.
