Wiz Khalifa, stoner’s favorite rapper, is back with a full-length project called “Wiz Owens” and a music video for the title track, “Jet Lag.”
The project consists of 13 songs and is approximately 35 minutes long, beginning with the song “Jet Lag” with a booming bap rap style. Wiz skates over this beat before launching into “Crispy T,” a song inspired by classic trap and boom bap where Wiz can be heard claiming to be putting a lot of kush on these streets. We have a hunch that he might not be lying!

The project has a classic Wiz style and is quite minimalist in its approach. Even the album artwork is a plain white slide with Wiz Owens’ name written on it. But for us, it’s a great approach – after all, it lets us focus on the music. In this project, we hear from a more mature Wiz, one who understands his current place in culture and the industry at large.

This sentiment is captured perfectly on “Yellow Diamond,” where Wiz talks about teaching young rappers what kind of music to make and what to smoke. That confidence, and that feeling of being there and doing it, is a perfect fit for Wiz, who has the personality and skills to back up those claims.

The mellow vibe continues on “1200 to Smoke,” where Wiz talks about his dissatisfaction with new rappers and how he became a true pioneer. With a constant calm confidence, he claims he can feel the pressure building, but that’s okay because he’s built for it. This journey through mellow, smoky beats and rap continues until we get to “On Bro,” where Wiz picks up the energy—an instant rage—over the sampled high-octane beat.
He even hits you with a dance club vibe on “Dream about you,” a strange combination of guitar riffs and jersey-inspired trap. Finally, the album ends with a smoke break in “Smokebreak,” where Wiz gets deeper into introspection. He sounds more candid, more vulnerable, and certainly more refreshed than ever. The last bar of the track confirms this interpretation, as Wiz ends with “King of Marijuana.” All in all, if you’re the kind of person who likes to take a cigarette break with music at the end of a long day, this might be the project for you.
