Tyler, The Creator has everyone’s attention after releasing his new album Chromakopia on Monday morning (October 28), and the former Odd Future frontman’s latest album also comes with a few surprises.
The 14-song album had no guest appearances on its track list, leading fans to initially think it was entirely a solo album. However, Taylor did receive a few uncredited assists from Lil Wayne, Sexyy Red, GloRilla, Childish Gambino, and others. In addition to those who provided sounds on the album, other artists are also credited in the liner notes in the form of samples.
The overarching theme of the project seems to be getting into the inner thoughts of the Grammy-winning rapper, who is once again opening up about his relationships. Female voices can be heard throughout the album, offering criticism and words of wisdom. Taylor recently explained the story behind the sound bites.
“This album allowed me to absorb a lot of the bullshit my mom told me as a kid,” Taylor told the audience at an album listening event in Los Angeles on Sunday (October 27). “Now that I’m 33, all these things are like, ‘Oh, this is what she said. Oh, I’m not the same person I was when I was 20. Oh, my gosh, people are getting older and having kids. and family, and all I got was a new Ferrari. It feels really good to join Ferrari.
“I have gray hair on my chest,” he continued. “Life is life and I just wanted to write something that came to mind while I was at Dolo.”
Here are nine surprises from Tyler, The Creator’s Chromakopia album.
