2Pac’s murder was only belatedly solved last year, although it became apparent that the main suspect wouldn’t be helped much longer in police custody.
On Friday (June 21), KTNV reported that Keefe D (real name Duane Davis) has raised the $750,000 needed to post bail while awaiting the start of his murder trial in November.
He is due back in court on Tuesday (June 25), when Judge Carly Kilney is expected to set the terms and conditions of his release from the Clark County Detention Center. In addition, he may also be asked how to obtain the above funds.
Earlier this year, the 61-year-old’s court-appointed lawyer petitioned the court for leniency, claiming his client “posed no danger” due to his deteriorating health.
A similar request was denied in late 2023 after prosecutors noted that Davis was once a senior member of the Compton Crips in the South District and that Davis was considered “too dangerous” to be released on bail. Additionally, they highlighted that the Californian has confessed to murdering the rapper multiple times in the past.
The former gang member, who was diagnosed with cancer, is the only person charged with Parker’s murder in Las Vegas twenty-five years ago. Although Keef D has pleaded not guilty, he has claimed that he planned the shooting multiple times before, most notably in his 2019 book “The Legend of Compton Street.”
“The authenticity of the interview has never been proven,” Davis’ attorneys argued in their defense. “This book and interview are for entertainment purposes and to make money from this situation. [LAPD officers] Others have profited [from]”.
Regarding the night of the shooting, Nevada prosecutors claim the legendary host got into an argument with the suspect’s late nephew, Orlando Anderson, who is believed to have been in the car with Davis during the drive-by attack.
In 1996, Tupac Shakur was fatally shot after attending a boxing match with Mike Tyson. The multidisciplinary artist who solidified his legacy in less than a decade died young at the age of 25.
