It’s been anything but a quiet year in the hip-hop world. Rap battles, hit songs, criminal cases, civil charges and chart-topping albums dominate the headlines. However, it’s time to look ahead to 2025.
Last week, XXL posed a question on X (formerly Twitter): “What do you want rappers to leave behind in 2024?” We received a variety of complaints and grievances. This is what we learned. Many answers are short and sweet. Many mentioned drugs, some citing the deadly effects of rap’s drug problem.
“Litigation” was another topic that came up, with some X users calling for Drake to take high-profile legal action against UMG in November, when he sued the music giant over Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”
Apparently, not everyone is feeling the rap and country music collaborations that seem to be everywhere in 2024.
Fans also hope the rhyme will calm down extreme braggadocio.
“Pointless flex…like the preface…this is the stupidest thing a rapper has ever done,” one person responded. “It’s totally unnecessary…no wonder they look stupid when they go bankrupt…and we already know they don’t own anything…most of them.”
Don’t hold your breath.
